One of the unfortunate celebrations that often gets left behind in non liturgical churches is Advent. I have fond memories as a child going to church anticipating the lighting of the next candle from week to week. Living anxiously for the arrival of Jesus is the most crucial element in the celebration of our Lord’s birth. Without preparing the way for our Lord, we are unable to experience the true meaning of His birth. That meaning can’t be experienced with the distractions Christmas may often bring. Experiencing the joy of Advent and it’s apex, the birth of Christ, remains one of the most foundational celebrations in Christianity’s story.
It’s real easy to fall into the stressful realities that Christmas can bring especially due to it’s years of secular influences. Anyone who has been to the mall lately has experienced some level of stress.
It’s very important to strip away the cultural traditions and simply meditate on the Nativity of our Lord. Christmas is simple. Would you experience Christmas joy if it were more simple?
Anxiously Awaiting His Birth
